Theresa Maxwell (Volleyball)


Theresa Maxwell is an Associate Professor Emeritus in the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary. She began teaching in 1966, and spent the majority of her career working in the teacher preparation programs at the University of Calgary both in Kinesiology and Education. She was actively involved in a number of sports, as a player, coach and administrator. Theresa was intimately involved in volleyball throughout her career, serving as coach to a number of club and high performance teams, as chair of a number of Alberta Volleyball portfolios, then as President of Alberta Volleyball, and finally vice-president and then president of Volleyball Canada. She has written a variety of articles related to volleyball and sport participation in professional journals. She was awarded the (Calgary) Women of Distinction for Sport in 1990, was inducted into the UC Hall of Fame and Alberta Volleyball Hall of Fame, and in 2005 received the Alberta Centennial Salute for Sport and Recreation as one of the 100 most influential figures in Alberta sport during the province’s first 100 years. She continues her scholarly work through writing, teaching, conducting seminars, conference presentations and volunteer work.
