About Our Collection

​

Our collection is the foundation of the museum as we strive to protect and share Alberta's sports history. The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame houses over 16,000 artifacts in its collection and continues to add new acquisitions through donations. Artifacts include clothing, equipment, trophies, medals, programs, and much more.

 

Collections Expansion

In 2017, we proudly completed a major renovation of our collections facility, expanding our capacity to house and care for over 17,000 artifacts. This complex project involved a full inventory, careful packing and transportation to a temporary off-site location, and finally, the safe return and reorganization of the entire collection into our upgraded space.

Thanks to the generous support of the Canadian Economic Diversification Fund, the Community Facility Enhancement Program, and the Alberta Museums Association, this long-awaited project became a reality. We are also deeply grateful to the many individuals who contributed along the way.

​

With over 17,000 artifacts now back where they belong, we’re proud to preserve and celebrate Alberta’s rich sports heritage.

New Collections Database

​

We are thrilled to share that the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame has officially completed the migration of our entire collection from Virtual Collections to a brand-new, fully searchable PastPerfect Online Database!

​

This significant upgrade improves access to Alberta's rich sports heritage and allows visitors, researchers, and sports enthusiasts from across the province—and beyond—to explore our collection like never before. From Honoured Members and iconic moments to rare artifacts and archival photographs, the new database provides an in-depth look into the people, teams, and stories that have shaped Alberta’s sporting legacy.

This project was made possible through the generous support of the Museum Assistance Program (MAP) from the Government of Canada, whose funding helped us modernize our digital infrastructure and bring the spirit of sport to a wider audience.
